Faces are for Feelings

Faces are for Feelings

New York is full of faces.

Some are human.

Some are made by humans.

Some don't have much to do with us at all.

But we've evolved to send and receive subtle information with our faces, using the so-called "mimetic muscles".

Spend a few hours walking around the city, and you've unconsciously absorbed little bits of information and emotional vibes from literally thousands of people.

Even though it's largely outside your conscious awareness, every person we pass has an almost imperceptible impact on our physiology and our psychology. Every face we pass makes us feel something. Because sending and absorbing information on the face is a core part of how we took over the planet. Even if that face isn't on an actual human.

BUT, I'm still shy about taking pictures of people, so here's some faces I captured on an 8-hour wander that D. and I took through the LES last week, on Sept. 11th. (Also some photos from midtown earlier in the day.)

Been busy giving tours and organizing (and then recuperating from) the Communities Together Festival. That's why I haven't written.

No captions, no commentary today. Just faces. How do they make YOU feel? Tell me in the comments.
