Hong Kong Drone Footage

You know I'm ambivalent about industrial society, because it will inevitably destroy itself and us along with it. But that doesn't mean I don't love tall buildings.

Watch this quick video shot with drones above Hong Kong - arguably the most beautiful skyline in the world.

Leading groups here in Manhattan I often go full-on historical materialist and invite people to "think about how all this shit got here", but that's true of Hong Kong (and where you're at too) and worth noting as you watch this.

Think about the millions of hours people spent to build this, and what it took to feed, clothe, house, entertain, and mollify them while they did it. It's an incredible undertaking to build a city - especially a city like this.

They drew resources from around the world and organized hundreds of thousands of processes and millions of people to shape all these objects that you see in this video, some that cross oceans, and others that are attached so well to the ground that we can live high up inside them.

It's incredible.

And think what it took to make it happen.

Shout out to the team at Timelab who made this. You guys are doing beautiful work. Would love to see you come back to New York.
